My name is Sara Frisby and I am the owner and operator of Prickly Pear Canine.You may know me or recognize me from my other "Prickly Pear" brand things.
Prickly Pear Kennels is my breeding program. I have been breeding dogs for over a decade. What started as a passion for dogs and breeding evolved into a deeper commitment to reproductive education and preservation as I experienced firsthand how limited access to quality reproductive care can be in Arizona.
In 2019, I trained with a reproductive clinic based in Cave Creek, Arizona, gaining hands on experience and foundational knowledge in canine reproductive care. My intention at the time was to be able to maximize success in my own program and save myself some time and the headache of dragging 2 kids under 2 and a giant breed dog to the vet. Many veterinarians, then and now, either do not offer reproductive care at all or it is not a focus of their practice, leaving breeders without meaningful guidance. Recognizing this gap, I set out to thoroughly educate myself to better serve myself and eventually my community.
I later trained with one of the most successful and leading cryopreservation specialists in the United States to learn the freezing process and expand my knowledge. After witnessing the devastating impact of the extreme heat on dogs in Arizona, receiving increased inquiries from my clients, and navigating the requirements for importing and exporting semen internationally, it became clear to me that this service was critically needed here.
Today, I am proud to be the only site in Arizona offering semen freezing and long term storage all here on site, providing breeders reliable access to professional cryopreservation services without the need to go through a middle man, saving time and money.
I am a born and raised Arizona native and mother of 4. When I am not working, you will find me outside, spending time with my kids and my dogs.
